I read this and I think this is something that guys should really do 😉
‘The rise of the man shower (otherwise known as a big party for men)
This is not a baby shower like you’ve ever seen before. There’s no traditional baby shower games or gifts, in fact, no pregnant mum-to-be and no women at all.
The rise of modern parenting
The whole ritual around parenting has come a long way since our grandparents whispered in hush tones that they were with child. In the last few years we’ve seen innovative and brilliant birth announcements, and videos of pregnancies that have gone viral. Concepts like push presents (a gift for the mum from the dad on the birth of her baby) have become commonplace and we hardly bat an eyelid when someone whips out a cast they made of their pregnant bellies.
Here’s something else that may soon also be considered part of the natural evolution of modern parenting – the man shower.
What is a man shower?
Think of it like a bachelor party but without the strippers and with added nappies. It’s really just a baby shower but for the expectant dad and his friends to get together to celebrate the impending arrival of the baby without mum, or any women around. In a way it makes incredible sense; his life is about to change as much as hers… but wait, that’s not exactly an excuse to drink beer out of a baby’s bottle is it?
While there may be men who celebrate the impending arrival of their baby with thoughtful musings about how their lives will change and there may be groups of men who buy gifts that will be helpful and practical when the baby is born, it does seem that the intention of the man shower or ‘dadchelor’ party is to get drunk. After all, there is no mention of a baby in the words man shower…
“… a group of close college buddies were all free on a Saturday night. One of the members of the group was the first new Dad to be expecting a baby. With a group of great friends who like to party and have a good time, a major life-changing event happened. A free night on our hands resulted in the birth of the ManShower. This idea was founded on the belief that the arrival of a new baby MUST be a celebration; and what a better way to celebrate than to get together with your closest friends and family and create lifelong memories.”
And it seems that celebrate they do. Just like they did before they got married – but with baby props.’
So, who’d like for J.A.P Cupcakes to organise them or their mate a Man Shower!?
